Balance between work life and personal life

Quoting Philippus Theophrastus von Hohenheim (1493-1541) a Swiss physician, alchemist, lay theologian, and philosopher of the German Renaissance who said that all things are poison, and nothing is without poison; the dosage alone makes it, so a thing is not a poison. In all aspects of life whatever that we do should have limits. In case of excess the overall effect will be unfavourable. We need to determine standards and endeavor to operate in the right niche.

Work involves all the physical and mental efforts applied in production of goods and services. It is rewarded with salaries or wages.

The labour productivity can be enhanced. This can be achieved through application of various methods which include staff retraining, application of technology, proper scheduling of activities, taking good health care of your staff, drafting clear job responsibilities and fostering healthy relationships between colleagues at work among many other factors.

Many institutions are happy when their staff are able to give maximum output thus enabling these institutions to improve both production levels and profitability.

Hardworking staff are usually liked by the management and owners of the factors of production. To attract, encourage and retain hard workers, some of the employees are promoted on strength of their hard work usually evidenced by their output capacities while other institutions offer overtime allowances to encourage the staff to increase the levels of production.

In a market with a lot of competition you will find that if an institution is able to maximize their output capacity the unit production cost will be lowered and the efficiency of the institution will be highly enhanced.

Most people take their jobs are lifestyle. It is part of their live. it happens that the more experienced in a certain job one is the better versed he is and the easier he can navigate between varying scenarios that may arise in the course of work. Experience goes hand in hand with confidence while executing the job.

There are those employees that for the sake of job security get too much immersed in the job to an extent that they are fail to draw clear boundaries between their work life and life outside their economic work. You will find such people thinking and talking about their roles at work wherever they are. They will report to work early and delay in leaving the work place. Use off days and vacations to attend to their work eating into time that ordinarily could have been allocated for other tasks.

Setting of timelines. These will enable you to limit the period that you are engaged in certain activities. Should you work extremely hard and finish before the deadline then you ought to take time and relax before engaging in the next activity? The longer you refresh, the more you allow your body enough time to repair the worn-out tissues due to mental and physical strain while executing the work-related activities.

You should be able to clearly identify the ideal, normal and basic standards. Every work that you perform you need to subject it to these standards and verify whether you have performed normally. Bear in mind that as a human being you have your own imperfections, so you cannot reach the ideal standards so do not waste time and energy blaming yourself for non attainment of the ideal standards on the other hand ensure that your production stands both qualitatively and quantitively are not below the normal standards as this will be wastage of resources. When setting standards ensure that the execution time budgeted for the project does not encroach into time allocated for other tasks.

Clear and precise communication with the rest of stakeholders both horizontally and vertically in the institution will play a major role in helping the projects to get accomplished in the already set time and with the correct procedure being followed. In times of ambiguity consultation should be held between the various players in the process and the resolution reached should be precisely communicated to the executors to avoid delays and misunderstandings. The roles, responsibilities and their timings should be clearly spelt to ensure the limits are taken into account and if need be additional materials or labour may be applied to ensure that all proportions of the work is right.

There should be time planned for review of work done taking into consideration the time limits, labour available and other necessary resources required. A room should be given to allow for minor variances or adjustment and this will work in favour of both the labourer and the owner of the factors of production.

All the work activities need to be scheduled, this will minimize chances of conflicts where multiple and at times unrelated tasks are being performed at the same time, diverting attention minimizing accuracy. Scheduling is helpful more so in monitoring and evaluation.
