Worth Noting:

  • Nataly lives in a very expensive 4-bedroom house in one of the most expensive part of Nairobi, and she normally has very expensive clothes and shoes, but her social life is sad due to the fact that her bank account aka the sponsor does like her hanging out with other men.
  • Nataly met her sponsor through one of her schoolmates as is the practice that goes on in campus there is usually one contact person who gives these young and naïve girls to the rich men, despite the fact that she knew he was married with kids she chose to get involved with him and the worst happened she got a child with him, and now he acts like she is his wife despite not being married or engaged there is basically no title to their relationship.
  • In these Covid-19 times it’s now very common to see very young girls in high-end clubs partying and drinking with rich old men and this in itself is becoming a pandemic as all women of types and age are involved as well as young men.

Since the emergence of Covid-19 in the republic of Kenya the health pandemic has affected the economy of Kenya as well as household welfare through reduced job opportunities, low earnings and lack of employment that has doubled compared to earlier days before Covid-19 came into existence.

Wageworkers, especially women who are still working are facing difficulties in their livelihoods due to reduction in earnings. One in three Kenyan workers are employed but with firms facing temporary or permanent closure leading two more million Kenyans into poverty.

Despite these tough economic times in Kenya there are still groups of rich people in Kenya who are less affected by Covid-19 in terms of finances, and they are taking advantage of these hard Covid-19 times when college and university students and just women in general are struggling to earn a living and make ends meet.

Sex for money has always been a hot topic and has been there for a long period of time only that during this pandemic most people are struggling and can do anything to get little stipend for survival.

The ongoing depressed economic situation has fuelled exploitation of college and university girls as well as working class ladies by sponsors popularly known as “Wababa” by the Kenyan community. These rich men with a lot of money and big cars are ready and in the habit of luring women with their money and high-end lifestyle. Speaking to several university students about their struggles with these men one particular story caught my attention.

Nataly not her real name is a student at a known and reputable university who joined the school in early 2019 by the virtual that all her relatives live in the village she had to stay in the school hostels.

As it is common with many families in rural Kenya, parents send their students to tertiary institutions in many towns and especially Nairobi without enough money to cater for their needs. Other students are longing for a lavish life that their parents cannot maintain.

Some of the girls who have been caught in these inadequacies results into sex for money to meet the needs that their parents are unable to meet. As these ladies seeks these unethical solutions it is fair to acknowledge that not everyone soliciting sex for money is happy to do it.

Nataly lives in a very expensive 4-bedroom house in one of the most expensive part of Nairobi, and she normally has very expensive clothes and shoes, but her social life is sad due to the fact that her bank account aka the sponsor does like her hanging out with other men.

Nataly met her sponsor through one of her schoolmates as is the practice that goes on in campus there is usually one contact person who gives these young and naïve girls to the rich men, despite the fact that she knew he was married with kids she chose to get involved with him and the worst happened she got a child with him, and now he acts like she is his wife despite not being married or engaged there is basically no title to their relationship.

These sponsor type of involvement really ruin peoples lives as she is a young adult Kenyan citizen a bright one for that matter who would have thrived to be a successful person. Due to the fact that the old man takes care of her needs she does not get to live a normal life as he claims she belongs to him and one time when she invited a man friend to the house, he busted them and ended up getting angry and not sending her money for a whole month not considering she has a few months old baby with no job and no other help.

Nataly only sees this father of her child once in a month considering he is a family man and has to be discreet to not be seen with her also due to the new world of social media expose’’.

Due to the worsening Kenyan economy due to Covid-19 many students are getting less support from their parents. Working class women on the other hand as seen on various social media expose are allegedly not ashamed to get involved with married rich men or big politicians in exchange for money, expensive trips, basic needs etc.

The Kenyan society should be worried as most of these people involved in sex for money are not healthy mentally or health-wise and could be spreading diseases like HIV and Aids and probably have nothing to lose. In these Covid-19 times it’s now very common to see very young girls in high-end clubs partying and drinking with rich old men and this in itself is becoming a pandemic as all women of types and age are involved as well as young men.
