Mindless ‘Throw-Away’ Culture of Plastic Bags Continues to Render the Environment Unsafe

Worth Noting:

  • Plastic is one of the main causes of animal deaths in recent years because most plastic (bags, bottles, straw and nets) discarded in oceans are mistakenly eaten as viable food by many marine animals which cause blockages in digestive systems for example sea turtle.
  • Straws are made for our convenience, but their harmful effects on environment are huge. In that, they are used for few minutes, but they are killing sea turtles for long time.
  • Not only sea turtle but also seabird like Albatross is facing same threats. Moreover, albatross   are incredible birds.  They have a wingspan of more than 6 feet, soaring vast distances without flapping their wings. They can go years without touching land. But they have a problem: they are eating plastic dumped in the ocean.  Not only will the plastic remain there far longer than their bones, but also it injures or kills the birds by cutting their stomachs or taking up space, making them feel “full” when they are starving.

How does Cancer affect your body? It affects your body through breaking the creation divide_ die process of human cells. Did you really get that? NO. In layman’s language, Cancer does not let old cells die. It keeps forming new cells which rapidly divides thus creating tumour.  In the same way plastic is like cancer for the environment, it does not decompose.  Once manufactured, it stays on the planet for thousands of years.

Did you know that humans produce roughly 200,000 plastic every second? About 8 million tons of the produced plastic are dumped into our oceans every year. Aha! Pretty damaging indeed. What happens to the dumped plastics on our oceans? Since they won’t dissolve due to being non-biodegradable materials, they disrupt the natural cycle for hundreds of species.

There are more animals in the list, like there are a number of seals and sea lions that become entangled in plastic bags or plastic packing bands. Imagine, if a plastic clogs around their necks, unlike humans, this plastic irritates them a lot as they can’t take it off themselves leading to injury and death.

A lot of plastic debris have been found in the Whale/ Dolphin. The biggest mammals are losing their lives because of consumption of the plastic that is being dumped by humans. They have big mouths, unknowingly they consume these plastic materials considering them as the food items. Which chokes in their stomachs and causes their death.

A study performed at the University of Exeter; UK suggested that microscopic marine debris could take up to six times as long for the animal to rid themselves of in comparison to ingesting the debris orally.

We all agree that, plastic is one of the most useful & devastating materials developed in history. It is cheap, easy to produce, incredibly versatile with properties that make it applicable for a variety of uses.

Along with plastic is the development over the last century of our mindless “throw-away” culture more harm than good has been done to the environment.

Save the Environment, Save Life and Recycle plastic materials.
