Worth Noting:

  • Interview sessions increased my passion for becoming a journalist. At some extent I would imagine myself seated with and interviewing some of the most respected people like the president and known celebrities. I also came to love most if not all news anchors and radio presenters because of their admirable use of language and their lifestyle.
  • When I joined Rongo University, I found the course more interesting than I had known before. The lectures were made lively and enjoyable by the help of Dr. Millicent Otieno, Mr. Charles Wagunda, Madam Marren, Prof. Fredrick Ogenga  just to mention a  few. I was made to realize the noble roles of media are to inform, educate and entertain. Thanks to the department of communication and media studies.

Journalism is one of the interesting careers that I have lived to admire. With Journalists put into consideration, people get to know the daily occurrences within their premises, region, country and worldwide as well. Citizens have this notion that “a Journalist knows it all” therefore, they depend fully on them for news, educative programs, and informative messages not to forget entertainment programs.

My love for journalism began to grow immediately I completed high school. During my leisure time I would tune to my favourite radio station, Radio Maisha, and enjoy listening to morning and evening shows which were quite interesting. From these shows I came to understand that media was very important in humans’ life. This is because from the media outlets like the radio, television and newspapers, people get news; they are informed of the current happenings in the country and world at large. The public also get entertained with cool music and sometimes comedians would crack listener’s ribs.

I have been described as the most extrovert person; an outgoing, socially confident person. Truth be told, the media industry is in need of such individuals. On the other hand, I have acquired enough knowledge on communication skills and journalism practices. These skills have enabled my stories to be featured on national newspapers like The Standard, Daily Nation, The Star and Mount Kenya Times. Several magazines for instance, Campus Life Magazine, Gradient Magazine, Weekly Review and several websites have also published my articles.

I have also visited two radio stations within my locality; Rongo University fm and Tarumbeta fm. From these media houses I have learnt a lot about journalism.

I am looking forward to transferring my writing skills, communication skills and public relations experiences to a position within the media industry. The prospect of working for a Media house as a television producer is very appealing to me. Ultimately, five to ten years down the road, I would love to be the managing director of one of the mainstream media houses in Kenya. I see this being fulfilled in the near future after I have further honed my skills.

To crown it all, the media has a responsibility to spur holistic development in the dissemination of information that inspire economic, social, environmental development should not be sacrificed at the altar of sensation news. Free the media from economic sabotage and political influence to enable it to perform its noble roles.
